Damn, that fridge thing happenned to me once; I lost $400 worth of food on 4th of july weekend. At least you were able to hammer out a schedule your way... guess that helps. You might consider just getting a cheap used car already in Detroit; you can always sell it when life changes. I'd tell my boss to supply me with a rental or something considering how much of your life you are giving up to do this,
