It was a beautiful day in Atlanta today. The sun was shining and the temperature were in the upper 50s, lower 60s. I didn't end up spending as much time as I would have liked outdoors, but I have had an enjoyable day thus far, nevertheless.

This week at work really knocked me out. I got up this morning at 6 a.m., and turned right around and said to hell with it and went back to sleep. I got up at 10 a.m. and went and let Rembrandt out of his area to play, and sat down on the couch and he curled up with me and I fell asleep again for a short period of time. After I woke up again, I went and changed the litterbox. I didn't put in a liner this time, and Rem seems to like it better.. he's not flinging cat litter everywhere when he goes because he's not busy trying to dig the liner up off the bottom of the catbox.

Then I got up and worked on the computer for a short while, doing the bills and things and figured out how much money I would have to spend on "Brat" today. Then I took off to go kitty furniture shopping. At my first stop, a petstore in my neighborhood, I ran into Carol, who is Rembrandt's "ex-Grandma" (Karen's mother). She was there buying cat litter for Madeline, and she invited me to lunch.

We went to the "Mad Itallian" a little subs/calzones/pasta place in our neighborhood. I had never been there before, but it was excellent, and I'm glad I went. Then I went to see Carol's new apartment and visit Madeline, who is also very happy to be an only cat now.

I don't think I ever quite told the saga of Karen and her cats. When I met Karen a few years ago, she lived at home with her mom, Carol, and six cats and two dogs. At the time, there were the cats, Smokey, Miranda, Bianca, Rembrandt, Kate & Madeline. (I think that's pretty close to age order too), and the two dogs, Tzar and Duchess. In the intervening years, both dogs and the three oldest cats have passed away. To add to the collection, however, Karen acquired more cats (more or less in order of appearance), Rufus, Agatha, Nick, Binkley and Abigail. This brings us to 8 cats. This brings us up to the last year or so. Karen got a puppy and was forced to give her back up because she started working longer hours.

By this time, Karen was dating Thomas (to whom she is now married). During the course of their courtship, they acquired 3 ferrets, but are back down to one, Isis. Thomas also got a big orange cat named Milo, who looks just like Rufus, to keep Karen company at his house. His roommate Adam, has a black cat named Ash (who looks like Rembrandt, but didn't have a chance to move in before I got Rem). And they also got "damn dog" - whose name I can't remember because that's all Carol ever calls him because he barks so much.

Now Karen and Thomas have damn dog & 8 cats at her mom's house, and 2 cats and a ferret at Thomas' house. Karen and Thomas got married in September and stayed at his place until December until the great "house swap" occurred.

Karen and Thomas are buying her mom's house. Carol got an apartment and took Madeline to live with her. So we're down to 7 cats and damn dog. However, around Christmastime, Karen fell in love with a purebred Abyssinian who is now named Gabriel, and had added him into the collection at the apartment. Thomas/Karen have now moved to Carols house, bringing 2 of the 3 cats and a ferret... this puts us back to 9 cats, a ferret and damn dog. This was too much for Rembrandt and we hadn't even added in his look-alike (Ash), yet. This is when Karen asked me if I could take him.

So now, Rembrandt is an only cat, and this week Ash moved into the household, which, at final count, now stands at 9 cats, a ferret and a dog. Binkley is having a bit of a problem adjusting, so Carol says that she might end up taking him if things get worse.

My allergies come and go, and Rembrandt seems to be more respectful of my personal space, so I'm not sneezing as much. Oh, and back to my outing today. I got him a pad that you can put catnip in, and two catnip mice, plus a supply of loose catnip. He's in kitty heaven now, and has been tearing around the house with his little mice and having just a good 'ole time.

I'm happy to be a pet owner again, it's been a long damn time.. too long.

Ciao for now...
