It would seem that the ever-lasting "blue funk" that I have found myself in for the past couple of months has lifted. I think that this is primarily due to the fact that we're getting settled into the house, and that I am sleeping much better here than I did in the apartment. I used to wake up 5-6 times a night (i.e., every 1-2 hours), which means that I never really got much sleep, except for the occasional weekend when I completely crashed and burned for like 12 hours straight. Last night however, I slept for an entire 7 hours straight, which is basically unheard of for me for my sleep pattern of the last 5-6 years.

There are three things that have contributed to my increased sleeping capability: 1) I found a study on the net that advised patients who are taking loop diruetics to take their 2nd dose no later than 4 p.m. (I had been taking mine at 7 p.m., which was 3 hours before bedtime as the doctor advised). The study said that by increasing the interval to 6 hours prior to bedtime, there wouldn't be as much of a chance for having to get up in the middle of the night to do your business. Wow! What a difference that made... I was immediately able to tell the difference and started getting up maybe only once instead of 5-6 times.

The second of the three factors is noise... my old bedframe used to squeak every time I rolled over or moved in bed. It was annoying, and I think that it kept waking me up every time I shifted positions, although I can't be sure, of course, because by the time I woke up, I wasn't moving around any more. I'm very sensitive to noises at night, and that leads me to the third factor... the lessened noise here in the house. The apartment complex was incredibly noisy at night... people would make lots of noise in our breezeway, etc., and that would wake me up. Here at the house, other than the occasional cat mishap, the nights are very peaceful and quiet.

Thus, getting lots of sleep makes Melinda a very happy and productive girl. Which is good. I needed to get out of that cloud I'd been walking under for a while. I thought that a lot of it had to do with the Org, however, now I'm not necessarily so sure, although the fact that my initial pass at the database is almost complete just *might* have a tiny bit to do with it.

This week many of my friends are travelling to ICC. I wish that I had been able to join you. There is always next year, of course. I'm hopeful that we'll be able to go to 12th Night, although I'm still weighing whether or not I'd rather go to 12th Night or SCARE. I know that SCARE would be Michael's preference, but that's a plane ride, whereas I can drive to 12th Night. Perhaps we'll do both, I don't know at this point. Of course, SERE and ICC are definites for us next year, although as much as I would like to go to NEGLECt again this year, I'm not sure it's going to make the calendar. Michael and I are planning a week in Hawaii to visit his father next summer, and that is going to take up a great deal of *his* vacation time, so we'll just have to wait and see. I'm of the inclination to drive most places these days, rather than fly. It's possible, however, that always takes an extra day or two, which I have, but Michael doesn't. Que sera sera.

I'm also trying to use my mornings more productively than I have been of late. Although I really shouldn't say that, I got a lot of work done on the database in the first two weeks of this month in the a.m. The first thing I need to get together is a list of projects, a shopping list of components, an outline of how I'm going to accomplish everything, etc., etc., etc. I get a lot more done when I have a checklist to go by. I think that's true of everyone, however.

Ciao for now.
