I almost missed posting today, not because I didn't think about it, but because I've been so busy being a geek. I upgraded my desktop system today (yeah, yeah, about 5 months early, so sue me). I bought a new motherboard/CPU/case. I didn't really need the case, but made an error in judgement, bought the case, and then figured out what the compatibility problem was between the old case/new motherboard (actually, it wasn't really a problem other than the manual that came with the MB was in error regarding some pin-outs on some of the jumpers).
I bought a black case because eventually I'm going to upgrade to a 17" black LCD monitor, etc. However, I forgot that my current CDR comes with a beige faceplate. So the system looks like hell for right now, but I've actually ordered an external case for the CDR so that I can move it easily between machines (we're going to have 5 computers in house soon).
I went cheap on both the MB and CPU, however, the MB has a lot of room to grow in that it will take DDR RAM and up to a 2 Ghz CPU (I only bought a 1.2 Duron for now). This should tide me over until some time next summer. I want to get the external case for the CDR and a new cordless keyboard/mouse (black/silver, on sale now at Costco), and that should be it on computer expenditures for a while. Well, except for new game software, of course.
I'm going to probably wind up spending most of tomorrow upgrading Carol's computer and reconfiguring my desktop, getting it on the LAN, etc. And the usual laundry stuff, etc.
Michael went to Birmingham to play Cam/Anarch tonight. Makes me a bit lonely, but I'll get over it. Just took some Motrin 'cause my shoulder is hurting me from hauling around all these heavy computer cases, etc., today. I think that's really all that was interesting about today.
Ciao for now.
