I must state for the record that Sugar-Free Jones Black Cherry Soda is da bomb. There are definite advantages to being in a new locale. Excellent Greek food and pizza, and the BBQ isn't half bad either. However, it is disconcerting because Detroit is such a dirty city, and I feel like I'm going to get food poisoning every time I turn around. Tonight's choice of new restaurant proved "scary", but I think my stomach is intact, we'll see what the rest of the evening brings.
Work is work, though I'm groovin' on the new assignment. For those of you keeping track, I'll be making a quick in/out on the 22-24 (flying into Atlanta on Monday evening and leaving on Wednesday evening). If anyone wants to hook up for dinner on Tuesday night, just let me know, that's the only night I'll be available the whole month of August.
I've been spending my weekends driving around, getting lost, and getting to know the Detroit metro area. Since I may wind up having to move here, I think that's a necessity. Dad is coming to visit me here for Labor Day weekend, I got him a suite in the hotel here, and should be able to keep him busy on Friday while I'm working. Then we'll have the rest of the weekend to hang out and go sight-seeing while he's here. He says he's even up for a trip to the Michigan RennFest... we'll see, I don't really think he'll like it, but who knows?
I'm loving both of my new laptops... My work laptop is small and light, and gets the job done as far as work is concerned, albeit a bit slowly. My new personal laptop is a hoss at over 9.5 lbs., however, the huge screen makes it awesome for DVDs and playing WoW, which it handles quite nicely without any slowdowns. I still don't have Ventrilo hooked up on the laptop because I forgot to write the settings down from my machine at home. I'll put that on my "to-do" list for while I'm there a bit this month.
Being away from home is a bit like being on vacation, I do find that I am de-stressing quite a bit, though I am homesick for my friends. We'll just have to see what the future brings. I have another meeting with HR on Tuesday, so hopefully some of my outstanding questions will get answered.
Ciao for now.
