I have a meeting scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Monday with HR & hiring manager (my mentor) for one of the positions that I applied for.
Now, I'm fairly certain they'll make me an offer, considering that they've been "selling" me on taking this job for almost a year now (it's a newly created position that they couldn't hire for until 2009 due to headcount stuff).
I have mixed feelings about this only because I feel like I'm being "forced out" of my old department. My new Director has made it clear that she thinks that I'm disruptive to the team (who say that I 'annoy' them, but no one can give any specifics about what behavior is annoying - hm, could it be that I'm not lazy????) Anyway.
The other hesitation is going to work for my mentor, and having to give up that relationship because now I'll have to behave somewhat differently (more reserved, etc.), and give up the friendship we've had for many years now. (I don't believe it's appropriate to socialize with one's boss... call me old-fashioned).
The positive part of this is that I've already talked to another Director about becoming my new mentor, and she and I are really excited about developing a relationship. I also adore my potential boss' boss, a gentleman who has provided me a great deal of inspiration and friendship since he joined the company a little over a year ago.
He actually let the cat slip out of the bag already, truth be told, when I went over to talk to my mentor (who turned out not to be in the office), he said, "We're all really excited, we think you're a great fit," and then hum-hawed around after I told him I hadn't heard anything yet.
So yeah, changing roles, but not changing employers. I'm so grateful to have a job. Also, the new role includes training for a highly paid specialty that would be something that is finally "transferrable" to a new employer, should anything happen to my company due to the economy. That's one of the things I have worried about... I've gotten so specialized over the last 11 years that I was potentially pigeon-holed into healthcare technology. This role will be learning function point analysis, which is a growing specialty with a high demand.
Ciao for now.
