On January 30th, we did a body fat percentage on me at the gym. It was 48.6, today we took it again, and it has dropped to 47.3, a whole 1.3 percent drop in just nine days. My trainer says that anything around .2-.3 percent per week is excellent, and was amazed at my progress already. My body fat percentage goal is 17-20%. That's when I can say I'm done losing weight. I really don't care about the actual number, just so that my BMI and my body-fat percentages are within the normal range.

I'm spending $90/week on my training sessions. I realize that it's a lot of money. I just invested another $450 in training shoes (2 pairs, one level 1 MBTs for everyday wear, and one level 2 chung shi for my actual workouts). I'm really focused on losing this last, stubborn one hundred pounds or so that I need to lose. On January 19th, I weighed 278 lbs. Understand, that's still about 150 lbs. less than my highest weight of between 425-430. But it's still about a 30 pound gain over my lowest point pre-Detroit last year. I'm back down to 270 as of today, and it looks like I'm going to continue to move in the right direction from here on out.

I would have to say that losing this weight is the biggest challenge I've ever faced in my life, and it's also the one that is the most important to my continued "being" on this earth. I can't let anything deter me from making this goal. Another one hundred pounds over the course of this year is doable, so that's my goal for 2006. I'd like to weigh 175 lbs. by the end of the year. Besides, if I just keep working out and eating right, I have a feeling that I'll feel fantastic by the end of the year, even if I don't actually make my goal weight.

One of the things that I have going for me is "muscle memory." All that time I spent as a college athelete is coming back to help me now. My trainer is amazed at how much improvement I'm showing by # of reps and amount of weight that I can handle with each successive session. As long as this regular travel to Detroit doesn't derail this (I'm planning on cooking and not eating out during these trips), and cutting back to only two sessions a week with my trainer (which will be good for my wallet) doesn't slow things down, I think I can manage.

Ciao for now.
