I started a new tradition last night. It's something I've been thinking about for a while, but wasn't quite sure how to pull off. In the end, I just decided to "build it, and they will come." I have trouble coordinating schedules and making time for all of my friends, so I came to the conclusion that I would set aside some time each week for my friends at a scheduled time so that folks know that I will be available to them. Last night, I called a few folks and cooked a family dinner. I'm going to be making my way through my phone list, but for those of you that read my journal, here's an announcement: Every Sunday evening I'm going to be cooking a family-style dinner. Consider this an open house/invitation. All I ask is that if you're planning on dropping by, let me know by Friday of that week so that I have some semblance of a headcount. That being said, don't be afraid to drop by unannounced either as I always have too much food, and if there are any leftovers, those who wish can take it home with them. Social hour starts at 5 p.m., dinner is served around 6ish, or when everyone has arrived. Soft drinks are generally available, but if you want wine or alcohol, then that's up to you (unless announced in my journal otherwise).

Last night's menu was simple, I made a pot roast. For those who've had it, it's more than just roast beef. The total meal consisted of roast beef, new potatoes, carrots, pearl onions, croissants and an apple crumb for dessert. [livejournal.com profile] koranger was sweet enough to bring a bottle of red wine, and [livejournal.com profile] da_diva joined us for dinner and a movie (American Wedding).

Next week's theme: Italian.

So, if you want to come over for dinner this Sunday night, just give me a holler.

Ciao for now.
