Insomnia...

Some of you might know that I used to really be an insomniac. I'd get by on only 4 hrs. of sleep each day. Then my health took a turn for the worse with my diabetes, etc., and I started sleeping more and more. In some ways, I think it was a good thing. Sleep helps my body heal. However, it appears that my insomnia is back again. I can't seem to sleep for more than a couple of hours at a time, and I'm constantly hyper. This started showing up Memorial Day weekend when I went to Vegas the first time... I was there for five days and probably only slept about 20 hours total. Things returned to semi-normal when I got back, but the insomnia reappeared when I went to Vegas over July 4th weekend (though I did sleep more this time). For the past week, I've found it difficult to sleep. I'm pretty sure that this is because I've finally kicked my metabolism back into high gear, which is a good thing, but I've got to figure out some way of regulating my sleep schedule so that I can make it to work (I tend to want to sleep from 4-8 a.m. when I'm like this), etc. I think the trip to Detroit may be a good thing because I'll be in unfamiliar surroundings, and it will take me a while to learn to sleep in the hotel, which means this will self-correct eventually just due to sheer exhaustion. This is why I'm just considering staying up all night tonight until about 9 p.m. tomorrow to see if that will give me a good night's sleep before work on Monday. I just got back from Steak 'n' Shake, so who knows, in about 20 minutes I'll either be hyper or asleep.

Ciao for now.

My day thus far...

Went to bed at 2 a.m., got up at 5 a.m. Typical insomnia pattern for me, and I feel fine today. Played some poker online this morning with mixed results, then went to BJ's Wholesale club and bought 45 days worth of food to take with me to Michigan. With a hotel refrigerator, a microwave and a few untensils from home, I can eat a relatively balanced diet while I'm in Detroit. Total bill was $291. Now, considering that I *may* (still don't know yet) be on a $50/day food per diem, that's not too shabby (though I will be supplementing the food I bought with restaurant meals 3 or 4 times per week). Also got the cat food necessary for the duration for Michael to give to Rembrandt. I still need to stop by Petsmart and get a larger self-feeder, pet fountain filters and kitty litter though. That can be done any time this week, however. I also need to pick up some more tubs at the Container Store, so that I can separate the food out into 15-day bins (will make it easier to unpack/store in the hotel room, etc., since these big black tubs stack. I have two, need one more and 2 more of my clear, handled containers as well). Going to start making the lists today. I'm trying to decide which will be better, getting up early on Sunday morning (my 5 a.m. usual), and loading the truck and driving straight through (it's about 800 miles), or driving half the way there on Saturday - stopping in Lexington, KY for the night and then finishing the drive up on Sunday. I'm kinda nervous about leaving the bed of the truck with anything in it overnight, and I don't really want to unpack the entire truck twice. I'll have to mull this over a lot more. Comments/suggestions welcome. A lot of decisions won't be made until after my Tuesday meeting with HR, which should provide me with a lot more details.

OK, off to do more "organizing."

Ciao for now.

Thoroughly enjoyable evening...

Tonight was spent in the company of some amazing people. A very nostalgic evening for me in some ways. A very happy birthday to [profile] arimathea. It was also wonderful to meet his other friends, including [profile] betynbean. It was so noisy, I had trouble catching names and their LJ nom de plumes. Nevertheless, I believe everyone had a good time. [personal profile] scottopic and [personal profile] phaedra also stopped by. I need to hook up with all of them when I get back from Detroit.

It's way past my bedtime, but I needed to decompress a bit. I need to write about this more, but will probably do so privately.

Ciao for now.
