What a day. I had to stay home this afternoon because Rooms To Go was delivering my new leather recliner. My delivery window was 2-6 p.m. So, of course, at 5:50 p.m., they arrived. Now, I wouldn't be complaining about this, except that it didn't go very well. First, the guy comes into the apartment and asks where they will be taking the furniture. I show him the room where I'm putting the chair, and he says, "How will a bed and a dresser fit there." And I look at him and say, "Bed and dresser, I ordered a leather recliner." And he just says, "Oh, sorry, long day." When he left the apartment, he tried to shoo me back inside to wait for them, but I walked out onto my sidewalk where I could watch them unload the truck instead.
1) The guy in the truck took forever to find my recliner. Obviously, they didn't plan their route very well.
2) The guy in the truck *threw* my recliner out of the truck, where I watched it BOUNCE off of the pavement. (My blood pressure is beginning to rise at this point).
3) The guy on the ground yells at the guy in the truck, successfully pissing him off to the point where he won't help the guy on the ground get the recliner on the dolly.
4) Watch the idiot on the ground REMOVE the blankets and plastic covering the recliner which are intended to prevent damage... meanwhile hearing him draaaaaaaaaaaag the recliner across the pavement in my parking lot.
5) Watch the guy on the ground struggle to get the recliner on the dolly, again, hearing much scraping and grinding sounds.... finally he gets it on the dolly and begins rolling it to my door.
6) Watch him draggggggggg the recliner across the sidewalk when it falls off when he tries to get it over the curb.
7) Watch as he stops halfway down the sidewalk and makes a half-hearted attempt to brush off the leather and clean it up before getting to the door.
8) Guy arrives at the door with the recliner and says, "OK, gotta get some help getting it inside," to which I responded, (after seeing gray concrete dust covering 2 sides of the recliner and torn leather and damaged wood on the corner), "No you don't, you can put it back on the truck. I didn't pay $1000 for a recliner to get bounced down the sidewalk into my apartment.
9) Guy responds, "It wasn't my fault, he threw it off the truck on me." And I said, "I don't give a damn whose fault it was, I'm not taking delivery."
10) Guy wheels recliner back to the truck and starts arguing with the guy on the truck again. I go inside and call Rooms To Go to tell them that I didn't accept delivery from Dumb and Dumber. When I go back outside, they had just left... no paperwork signed saying I refused delivery or anything. Spoke with the store manager on duty, and he will call me back on Tuesday with a new delivery date, probably in another 3 weeks or so.
This sucks so bad. First, I had to wait a month to get it delivered in the first place. And now, I'm going to have to wait for it again. (And you can bet I'm going to go over that piece of furniture with a fine tooth comb to make sure they didn't try to push the same one off on me a 2nd time).
On a happier note, I bought a new Nokia 8260 email-enabled cellular phone today. I got a better package deal with more minutes and free long distance and I'll wind up reducing my cellular bill about $10/mo.
Ciao for now.
