Nostalgia...

One of my very first memories is of the carhops on roller skates at the Steak 'n' Shake in Springfield, MO. We visited my mother's parents fairly regularly when I was a pre-teen, driving five hours from Independence, MO to Ava, MO on the weekends. Ava is about 60 miles east of Springfield, and on long weekends, my Dad would insist on "taking the long way home" so that we could visit Steak 'n' Shake (they didn't have any in Independence at the time). Apparently, when my parents were dating (my Mom lived in Springfield at the time, and my Dad was there for basic training for World War II) it was one of their favorite destinations. Because of this, my Mom couldn't "overrule" my Dad on this one.

So tonight, I went to Steak 'n' Shake. I wish we still had carhops, that used to be part of the allure. The burgers are still good (I had a sundae instead of a shake though since I'm doing the blood:water mission right now). Going there now just makes me remember some of the happy times of my childhood... it was one of the few places that both of my parents seemed to really enjoy.
