OK, so I'm posting. Mostly out of guilt for not posting in so long. I read LJ faithfully every day (it feeds my voyeuristic tendencies), but I never seem to post myself (probably due to my lack of exhibitionist tendences).

The word for the day is... drama.

Why oh why do I seem to be a drama magnet? Things at work are "interesting" these days. I'm not going to elaborate here except to say that it's really interesting to find out what your co-workers believe about you when they don't know they're being "informed" on. hehe

I am still overwhelmed with boxes and extra crap I need to sell off. We decided to forgo the actual garage sale and just get rid of things kind of "piecemeal" like. This means I still have a ton of furniture that I need to get rid of. I need to get off my ass and take pictures with the digital camera and post my own "online garage sale" for those in Atlanta. The regional sections of eBay work for that as well, I just need to get my butt in gear.

Our company sold off its extra computer equipment this year. I didn't opt for a system this time because they didn't sell any monitors with them, and were only PII 450s. Plus, the laptops only had 2 MB of video RAM and were PII 166s... I didn't feel they were worth even the $150 they sold them for.

However, every time my company does this, it means that I make money. You see, they strip the machines down and installed Windows NT as the operating system and then gave them to people. Most of the people in my company would rather have a different operating system installed. I'm happy to oblige them for $20 a pop. So far I've done 3 machines. I'll probably wind up doing another half dozen before the "season" is out. It's nice to get a little extra change from unexpected sources... Plus, I'm getting some moola from the piecemeal sale of all my unwanted belongings.

Bleh... I don't want to work today, however, one of my co-workers was looking seriously ill at close of business today, which probably means that I'll have to cover for him today. This is "load Friday" - which is the busier of the two-Friday cycle. Means we loaded tons of new code to the system (and for this particular week, I do mean *tons* - we implemented the capability to service more Federal Employees on the system), so if anything got screwed up, we'll be busy today.

Plus, one of my issues is ballooning like a big mushroom cloud. I'm feeling like I'm going to have to be the bearer of very bad news today. I hate that. I hate having to tell our customers that something major is broken on our system. I'm just not feeling very good about things right now on that front. Which is probably what is stressing me out at home.

Right now, I'm just rambling. So I'll stop. I'll post again...someday.

Ciao for now.

Capital Assets...

Yah, our Milford office almost got in severe trouble that our team had to put a stop to... basically because they were having this "Give-away" of excess equipment and some of the equipment still had Net Book value, and other equipment could have been given to admins or office workers (non-developers) to use to do their work, etc. It was pretty messy, at first. Now its been cleared up for the most part because they're following our process now which means it goes up on the re-deploy list for a few months so that if the company has a need for it, the company's had its shot at it and then they can give away or sell off the equipment. Most of the workstations are PIIs, there's a few PIIIs... and there's several UX systems-- like C180s that I don't see going anywhere. Heh... even saw an Ultra 2 on the list... talk about ANCIENT. Some DEC Alpha's in there too. *chuckles* IBM Thinkpads too that have been considered within the company as completely bottom of the food chain-- I mean, I know I've been griping about the laptop issue recently, but I have more self respect than to pick up one of the excess IBM Thinkpads.

Well, glad to know that you're doing well! Don't be afraid to speak =)
